Margaret Angell Shields Volney II, having been raised in the south, and steeped in the southern tradition, prides herself on providing outstanding customer service to her clients. Her warm and friendly approach to design is both comforting and reassuring to them. Margaret's acute attention to detail, scale, light, function and, most importantly, to her client's needs, results in refreshing, and highly functional living spaces that exceed her clients' expectations.
Margaret earned her Master of Arts Degree in Design and her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Environmental Design at East Carolina University. She is an active member of the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA), Trent River Arts Association (TRAA). She is a Leadership Craven 2009-2010 Alumna, and was the American Society of Interiors Designers (ASID) 2010 North Coastal Design Community vice-chairman.
Margaret is very involved in her community, and local non-profit organizations. An accomplished artist, she has participated in the "New Bern Paint a Bear" project and her creations: " Sleepy Bear", and " Future Bear" can be admired in front of the BridgePointe Hotel and Marina, and on the corner of Pollock and Middle Streets, respectively. When in downtown New Bern, you can also admire fire hydrants painted in the likeness of eminent figures of New Bern's past: Baron DeGraffenried, Miss Gertrude Carraway, and Judge William Gaston. The whimsical high chair she has painted for Habitat for Humanity's "Chair-ity" auction raised money for this organization's work. Margaret's special touch as an event coordinator has been seen in many weddings and other social events.
Regardless of the project, you can count on Margaret to give it her all. Portfolio (click here)
